CENIT is a charity in Quito that serves children. Several Johns Hopkins University Alumni, including several students who first visited Ecuador with the Intersession course, have volunteered at CENIT in the past few years. We encourage donations of items that can be found on this list of needed goods.

This course is an introduction to Ecuador's Rain Forest, Highlands, and Galapagos Islands. The course will concentrate on the flora and fauna of these special habitats, but will also include the history, art, and culture of Ecuador. The final grade will be based on a field notebook that the student keeps, participation during the trip, and a final paper due in late January. There are no prerequisites other than a valid passport and approval of instructors.

Eligibility: All undergraduates are eligible. Other individuals within the Hopkins community may be considered. Some background in biology may be helpful, but is not required. Participants will be selected by the instructors.

Application: Applications for the 2008 course are available here.

Application packages must be received in Ames 225 no later than Tuesday September 28, 2007 (4:00 p.m.). A $300.00 deposit (checks should be payable to "Johns Hopkins University") and a photocopy of your current transcript are due with the application. The deposit will be refunded if you are not selected. Be sure to read the rules regarding your deposit before submitting your application.

Decisions: Students will be notified on Tuesday October 2nd, 2007. Those students who are selected to participate will be given permission to register at that time. All information and final payment will be required by October 12th.
