Depending on your insurance, medications typically require between $50 and
$250.
2) Tips: We will pay a basic tip for our guides and staff throughout the trip. You will be asked if you want to make any additional tips for the Guides at Sacha Lodge and in the Galapagos Islands.
3) Departure Tax: This tax is collected when you check in for the departure flight from Quito.
4) Personal Expenditures: Extra food, snacks, and beverages are not included. Gifts
and any personal items are not included.
5) Passports and Visas: Travel to Ecuador requires, at a minimum, a valid passport. Visas to
Ecuador are not required for citizens of the United States. Citizens of other countries may need
to obtain a visa. Passports and visas are the responsibility of each student.
COST: Keeping the price of this course as low as possible is a major concern of ours: we have made
every effort to keep costs down. This course includes a total 3 round trip flights - to and from Ecuador, to and from the Galapagos Islands, and to and from the rainforests. There was a dramatic increase in the costs of these flights due to the increase in petroleum prices, and this is reflected in the cost of this year's course.
Nevertheless, with respect to commerically available tours with the same features (rain forest, highlands, Galapagos), the cost of the course is in the medium to medium-low range. This course offers features that are not found in most commercial tours, including scientific and cultural lectures from Ecuadorian experts/professors. Further, students have an unusually good opportunity to interact with Johns Hopkins faculty in this course.
